SINO-ARABIC SCRIPT AND ARCHITECTURAL INSCRIPTIONS IN XI’AN GREAT MOSQUE, CHINA | Author : Djamel Dilmi | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract : The Islamic art have played a significant role in the development of Muslim Chinese community in China, it was developed through time in response to cultural needs of the minority Muslim groups in China. The Islamic calligraphy was widely used in architecture, especially in interior and exterior decoration of mosques and other religious buildings. The aim of this study is to interpret the Islamic art and architecture in China through application of Sino-Arabic script on mosques and crafts produced by Muslim minority in China in relation to the Islamic civilization and Chinese civilization, in order to suggest some guidelines for the preservation of this forgotten Islamic heritage. To achieve the aim of this paper the Sino-Arabic inscriptions will be examined in order to determine their characteristics and the nature of the effects to which they have been subjected. A broad range of information was collected from various sources and through a field survey that was carried out in Xi’an Great Mosque in China. The collected information from field work will be analyzed with particular regard to the special character of Chinese Islamic art and architecture. This study is an attempt to address the important topic of Islamic calligraphy and its application on architectural buildings in China as part of issues of Islamic architectural heritage and its integration with local tradition that have been occurred in the Muslim world and it is hoped that it is going to be a significant contribution to the subject of Islamic art and architecture in China as well as revival and preservation of this forgotten heritage. Detailed conclusion will be arrived at the end and specific suggestions are intended to assist in examining the topic in depth and helping in developing guidelines for regional expansion and adaptation of Islamic art and architecture with local environmental condition to contribute more for the future of Muslim heritage and civilization. |

The development of new infrastructures in the island would benefit to not only for tourism, but also the activities environmental sustainability in the area. A sustainable tourism development must touch three important aspects: First, economic, social and environment which are inter-related to each other. If not carried out in a balanced way, then it could possibly damage the infrastructures around the tourism area, such as breakwaters, piers and the whole environment. In conclusion, it is important to map the characteristics of the infrastructure damage around the Untung Jawa Island, as well as the urgency to update the information about the ecology of the islands without forgetting the government’s role to develop the island by considering the characteristics of the infrastructure, local and ecological potential. |

It was also a key element of sustainable living. The important of water is proved by fact that human body were consists of 80% water which makes daily water needs is definitely important. Same thing was happen on earth which also consists of 71 % water. Unfortunately, nowadays qualities as well as quantities of water is getting poor caused many environmental decline. Those situation is feel quite irony, first is because in one side human are depending on water badly, and in another side, qualities and quantities water have been decreasing because of their own. This environmental issue, especially water was realized by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) by starting to be a first pioneer in Green & Sustainability Campus in Malaysia. Although UKM is located in water-rich country, still UKM try to commit to save environment as well as manage its environment aspect. The usage of water in UKM itself is categorized in high level. UKM have around 20.000 students and most of them are dwelling in campus. For big campus like this, UKM had one main Mosque which accommodates some daily worship of Moslem as the majority one. For activities like ablution, washing and bathing, UKM Mosque had produce quite big amount of grey water. Grey water itself is residual water that still fresh and can be recycled for some purposes such as landscape irrigation and cleaning service. One alternative method to treats the grey water is by the usage of filter wells. This paper is trying to analysis and proposes some design of grey water system in UKM mosque in order to save environment. With proper grey water treatment, UKM Mosque will contribute to save water and UKM’s environment. This successful water treatment is also can be an alternative model to apply in another building. |

That created a specific style for each architect according to the degree of their conclusions, investigation’s strategy of traditional roots in their products and works, which are often associated with certain values and the ambit of their interest to represent the identity of contemporary Arab Islamic architecture. In addition to the existence of two main strong motives, the need for affiliation and the need for distinguishing oneself and diversity, in parallel with the presence of the methodological pluralism for every Muslim architect. |
